ok planing on doing the big 3 upgrade to my car and my question is can i get away with doing it with 4awg ?its the same size as the power wire i got running to my disto block and its got a place for 2 8awg coming out of it.also the wire that goes from my alt to the bat looks like its only 8awg. so would going with 4awg be worth it also do i have to put a fuse in between the alt and the bat with only going with 4awg?

1/0 awg means that its perty much imbetween 1/0 . they call it 1/0 cause if you have ever noticed that wire gauges go in even numbers so next one down from 2 would be 0 but since it not quite 0 its called 1/0 at least thats the way i understand it to be.

FAIL!

1/0 = Literally pronounced "ONE OTT" meaning literally Single Zero Guage.

2/0 = Literally pronounced "TWO OTT" meaning literally Double Zero Guage.

And so on, and so on.

Since the lower the number, the larger the wire... 2guage, 1 guage, 0guage, 00guage (2/0), 000guage (3/0), etc, etc...

Also AWG = American Wire Gauge...

okay thanks, I found the chart on wiki, if im going to be putting around 1600-2000 rms from the battery, will a 2 gauge wire be sufficient? The more watts you output, does the gauge of your ground wire make a difference?

dont use wikipedia...

if youre really running above 1000 watts you should be running at least 1/0 power... youre ground should be AT LEAST the same size of your power, if not bigger.

K, so for simplicity sake your power and ground should be the same gauge.
