ok how do i add a wire from Battery positive to alternator positive lead? i have a part on my alternator that has a screw and a little red piece of metal on it. do i put it there?????

and how do i add a wire from Battery negative to Engine block ground??? i dont even no what this means lol

you want to run a power wire from the stud on the back of the alt to battery positive. the engine ground is basically find a bolt on the engine, and ground the wire from that engine bolt, to the chasis or negative battery terminal.

the only wires on my alt are coming from the pin jacks that go into it... the one on the case has no wire coming from it...
This thread is scaring me a bunch. Have fun welding. If you don't know what the charging wire off your alternator looks like, you may want to close the hood and go find a chiltons manual to help you before you ruin your car and/or injure yourself. Often chilton manuals can be found at your local auto parts store, or....the library! Please be smart, cars are expensive and I don't want to read a "my battery exploded and now I have my friend typing for me because I'm blind from the acid" thread.

ive got a 89 mustang 4 cylinder... does anyone else on here have this car with the original alt. and have done the big 3 on it? or put a big 3 on one? i would really appreciate it...

My brother has an 89 mustang, 5.0 though.

I'm looking at his Haynes manual right now. Your right, the stock wiring is not bolted to it like most alts. But there should be a nut on the back that says "BAT" next too it which must mean battery but the manual does not say. There is also two other bolts on the back, one the says "GRD" which I take to be ground, and one that says "FLD" which is the rear field housing nut and should be orange. I don't know what it's for, and I'd ask someone who knows more about mustangs before I go and start messing with it.

The Batt terminal is the one that goes to the battery from the alternator, the field should be the power input to the field coils on the alternator that make it work if my memory of Ford stuff is correct, and grd is ground.
