I am in the process of upgrading my factory 12 gauge wires to 4 gauge but I am stumped.

I got a new 180 amp alternator but I dont know how to wire from the connectors on the alternator to the new 4 gauge wire...

Here are some pics.

These are where I am stumped, how can I connect the 4 gauge wire to those?

You have to break that black plastic piece off and put your terminal there and screw it down. Also make sure it is good and tight so you have a good connection.

Yeah that piece should break off and then put the 4 gauge wire onto that.

yes, keep your factory wire there and just add on to it

I went to a car audio store and the guy said the only one of my wires I need to upgrade is the + from the alternator to the battery. How do I do that?

dont do just 1, it wont be beneficial. look at the thread at the top of the wiring/electrical section. it is the official big 3 thread and read that. it will tell you everything

edit: you can't get more current through the + if it has nowhere to go

You want to add a wire from the alternator positive to the battery. You want to take that plastic cap off of the alternator and add an existing wire that you will run from there straight to the battery pos, hopefully you'll fuse it too.

Yeah I will prolly end up doing the 3, but for now ill just do the one. My question is how wire it. Can I go strait from the alt to the battery and leave the factory wire, then just wire it on like a sub onto the battery terminal?

doing just one will not help unless it is the smallest wire of the bunch...and even in this case, since you will be starting the work, why not just finish it

yes, just run a wire from the alt positive and run it straight to the battery positve and leave the factory wiring

Looks like I need to go get 6 more feet of wire lol.

I wish I could get new battery terminals to run the new wire but if I cut them the factory wire wount reach anymore:crying:

Yeah the two remaining grounds should be pretty trivial compared to replacing an alt.
