Biden: Wealthy Americans Must Pay More Taxes to Show Patriotism

So you're saying the rich people should be rich, and the people born rich should be rich, and the poor people should stay poor...are you serious?
Dead serious, with one exception to what you said.

The one's that are born poor that make an effort out of life will become rich. Those that remain poor should be flown over the ocean and pushed out of the plane without a parachute.

There are already mechanisms in place for social class growth. I think you believe social stratification is not inevitable.
of course its inevitable, but we can at least try to close the gap, and do a better job of it. people always talk about how 'highly educated people should make more money', so in essence, the way we fund public schooling GIVES money to the rich people, and gives almost nothing in comparison to the poor

WTF? You admit that it is impossible but you want to try anyway?

You should be in politics wasting my tax contributions. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif

And the rich people GIVE MORE BACK. The poor don't give shit back.

And you think this is okay? Look, if there are kids (yes there are) who REFUSE to try in school and try to learn and give a ****...let them drop out, let them go grow up poor, but that's no reason not to at least give their kids the same opportunity and chance they had. How exactly are poor people ever supposed to make it out of the lower class if we can't offer them even close to the same education someone of the upper class gets from our public schooling system?
They'd have to find some other way...ie drug dealing...robbery...crime...the one in a million who make it rapping or playing sports...etc, hmm...

Because education and opportunities are not limited to ONLY what exists in the classroom. Are you suggesting we also put a pistol in the mouths of the parents that they ,too, support their kid's education? We can spend the a trillion bucks on school and that won't create the social support structure necessary to hop social classes. Until parents and communities create a social structure that values, embraces, and enhances education, the only people that really gain from increasing spending on education is students where such a structure already exists. There is a mindset among many parents that is the role of school to educate their child and prepare them for their adult life. That is simply not the case, school only provides technical skills...it is up to parents and communities to instill strategic skills....and it is those skills which give students the direction and ambition to live a fulfilling life.

Really? So you're saying every single person (or even the majority) in this country, if they just try, can become rich...you ought to be writing books and doing seminars and workshops if you've figured out some way to get rich when your mother is livign off of welfare, you dont have a dad, you dont have the resources to learn a **** thing hardly in school, and you spend most your life just trying to SURVIVE, let alone advance in society...

Exactly how does the state do this? Are you tryin to say $12,000-$15,000

a student is not enough? You give districts a tax and payment free piece of land

with a schoolhouse on it and that much per student with a high enrollments,

yet they still fail.

Time to open this up to the private sector, we are throwing money into a

bottomless pit.

Do you support school vouchers?

Financial aid is your friend. Neither of my parents graduated from college. I didn't grow up rich. My older brother is an optometrist, I'm an engineer, my sister has a management position at the local DSHS, my younger brother will be getting a teaching degree (this year) from a private university. Only one of the 5 of us did not graduate from college and that is because he never did real well in school and didn't try.

No matter what your class, if you want to go to school, the government will help you out. I got financial aid, a small scholarship and student loans with no problem. So did the other members of my family (except the scholarship). Don't give me this crap about poor people can't go to college and succeed. It's horse crap. If they wanted to go to college they could.

Why should I pay a lower, or higher percentage of taxes than anyone else? I don't mind that my boss and the owner of the company make more than I do. They shouldn't have to pay any higher percentage of taxes than me.

Those are social problems that obstruct educational and professional potential. Is it the role of education to overcome those problems?

In 2005 the top 5% or earners took on 43.8% of the tax burden.....if you think the rich aren't being "patriots" and paying wayyy more than their share you are just a greedy poor person

Some good points, but it doesnt change the fact that the opportunity has to BE there, we can't just say well since you guys dont try to learn anything, we won't try to teach you

I lol'd...but thats not what I said. Its impossible to have zero gap, but there's a difference between a 100% gap, and a 2000% gap...

How the hell are the poor supposed to give shit back when they have a hard time even living?

Keep in mind that MANY small businesses are sole proprietors and would fit under the tax increase for ~250k income. Small business is pretty important to the economy so penalizing them is really not a good way to raise more money for the government, IMO. Not all of that money is for them, but the structure of the company appears that way when taxable income is calculated - that is total business income after expenses. Pretty hard to grow a business with current tax rates as a sole prop much less higher rates.
Yup
