better to mount speakers on door panel or ??

hi guys,

i have been thinking about this as i see everybody just cut there panel, glue on some speaker rings, fleece over and glass them.

well i cant see were thats the best. right ?

i can see with some speakers but the bigger ones like 8" or 10" woofer should be part of the door right ??

see thats how i have my 8" daytons. were i built a baffle right onto the door. glassed it so now its part of the door itself. and i cut the panel so i can slip the panel on the door.

but i have my 6.5 rings glassed to the panels.

and just thinking should i also make the 6.5's part of the door also ??

or just keep the 6.5"s on the panel.

as im going to redo the door panels as the 6.5 pods came out like shittt and im not happy. so im going to fleece over the hole panel and make it nice, but was wandering if i should change the mounting of the 6.5 .

what do you guys think.

and i take it it is easier to just mount the speakers to the door panels, right? but not the best..

well - better and best are subjective

and

i see your talking diffrent size speakers as well

so

the real deal audio phile guys are going to say this :

keep the larger speaker playing using the door cabbin as the box - and use the smaller speaker in the door pannel and seal off the back side so that its a sealed unit and the sound waves from larger speaker will not interact with the sound waves of the smaller speakers.

but

other dudes will be like na its cool just get em all in there any way you can - having multiple speakers in one door already imediately kills any audio phile sound quality you could of had from them to begin with anyways so just go for loud any way you can get it.

but yeah

diffrent but same rules apply - the rear deck of my lowrider car i had. pair of kicker 6x9 left and right - and a 8" sub center - all free air to the trunk - the 8" sub was creating such a preasure wave in the trunk during bass - that the cones of the 6x9 speakers were being severly distorted by its preasure causing them to sound like azz because they were all sharing the same air space.

true story

i was a newb and diddnt realize that would be an issue. diffrent speakers sharing the same air space / enclosure will not interact super well with eachother.

i think the speakers should not be mounted to the plastic door panel itself - because you don't want vibrations radiating through the plastic panel. your idea of keeping the speakers sealed to the doors and have the panel just mate up is your best bet.

I run 15's in my doors attached to the panel via wood baffle/FG. I bolted the panel to the door in a few places. I do that on all door panels with multiple speakers cuz people tend to slam doors when bailing out....

In my s10 I mounted through the panel. I just used roofing grade high density foam (real good weatherstripping) as a sealing and dampening ring between the panel and door. I also put thin weather stripping on the door panel where it touches the speaker. Tight seal, limited vibration transfer, easy speaker removal as it can be done without taking apart door. I don't have pics now as I am redoing the upholstery.

thanks guys, great info.

and thats why i did my 8" in the lower door in there own enclosure well i made the hole door the box. i covers all holes with small panels i made,, put q-mat over all the small holes.

so anyway the mid-bass i really good now.

but the 6.5 pods i made, there on the panel itself and i dont like it . it make putting the panel on very hard as its very heavy. so was thinking just putting the 6.5 on the door also. but if i do i was going to make a seal box for then. as i dont want the 8" pushing on the 6.5 .

and im going to redo my door panels as they look like shitt right now and i dont like it.

so need to figure out, keep them on panel or put them on my doors.

im thinking im going to make pods on the door itself and just cut a big hole in my panel so i can slip the panel over the pods. would make it eazer to mount my panel.

thanks guys.

as im wanting the BEST sound i can get out of my system. its LOUD AS HELL but wanting better sound.

ill get some pics of the lower 8" it came out great... o ill put them in my build thread.

no amount of tuning can fix problems with the enclosure (resonance, lack of absorption, flimsy panels, seals, etc.). start with the best speaker enclosure you can make and tuning needs are minimized.

i agree you want sealed enclosures for the 6.5 and let the 8 use the door cavity - all mounted to the door with the panel cut out. just make a grill for each on the panel so it's only a cover. add absorption in each enclosure + door cavity

so when i make the pods for the 6.5 add deadening inside? or something else ?

i di dnot put anything on the sides of the 8" baffle, should i ?

i make the 8" baffles 1-1/2 thick as i had to space them out from the door as my window was hitting the motors.

but im making a custom center console right now, but the next project are the 6.5 pods and redoing the hole panels. thinking about making my own panels instead of fixing/cutting my stock ones.

and i did add everything you did to your doors. and made my add on panels for the door holes out of plastic. and i put q-mat on both sides of them. sealed all holes in the door except the water holes at the bottom of the doors.

anyway thanks for your help and your build threads. very good info.
