better SQL with 1 or 2?

If I want SQL would it be better to have 2 subs but turn the gains down or 1 sub and run the sub near its max rms powa? From my experience all subs sound better below there max rms powa.

One sub running at optimum. Why run 2 subs if you're not running at optimum? Extra weight, extra space, waste of resources

i think 1 sub running at its rated rms or even above if it's a good sub like aq, fi, dd, sundown, any of the subs that give boners to people on this site.

if you have the power, space and dollars to run to subs, i think it will sound better and will obviously be louder, but then theres your personal definition of "SQL", so who knows...
