Better sound from round or elliptical speaker?

I'm thinking of going with either 5.25" or 4x6 speakers (eclipse or MB Quartz) for my front doors. I've had 4x6 plate speakers (Infinity) in there for a year. They don't produce much bass. Does a round or elliptical speaker produce better bass/sound? I guess it's very hard to hear the difference but to me an elliptical speaker doesn't seem capable of producing a round soundwave.

oval has more cone area so it may be slightly louder but round will have better sound quality.... not really a noticeable difference tho i dont think... but if you're gonna replace them just go w/ round... they will fit easy

hmm, when most people think of sound they think of magic school bus style circles coming out I guess? It's definetly not the first time this has come up on this forum. Sound can be described using a sphere, well the propogation of sound can, theoretically.

Holy crap you guys are confused....

A round speaker compared to a similar oval speaker will generally be more clear, due to less flex in the cone, and will often be capable of higher amplitude due to even surround flex. An oval speaker will not be LOUDER, it will just move more air. Magnitude, not amplitude...

As far as "making round sound waves" give me a break...

The sound wave is like a 3-D sine wave? I don't think the waves are round, I can't remember from my physics classes, have to break out the books.
