Better off with two smaller amps or one more powerful amp for my two 12's?

I have two 12 inch Alpine Type R SWR1242d's rated at 500 rms each 1500 peak.

Would I be better off buying a single monoblock amp or powering each one seperately with two smaller amps?

Either way is fine, but the single amp will make for a cleaner install in most cases.

ya jus run one , half as much wiring for the same thing, and u have to match the gains identically for it to sound the same

Youll want around 1200rms to them minimum not very efficient subs, but with some power they sing. They sound great ported

Just picked up a Soundstream LW1700 watt mono amp, pretty sure it will do the trick.

They come to life around 700 rms, id do a mb quart 1500, or 2k

i'd definitely go with one amp. All of what I saw recommended thus far seems to work well, but personally i have bxi2008d going to mine ported and it's pretty loud. amp is rated to give each sub around 1000w rms, i'd put that more around 700w rms because of my weak electrical system. but when my battery is fully charged....it pounds. just bought two swr-1243d's and I'm putting a BRZ1200.1D with those in my uncles car. just had my main girl buy a BRZ1200.1D to push her 3 kicker 10's.

Do they really need that much power? I have my 2 12 type R's hooked up to a Rockford fosgate 750d- 1 mono amp and I have to keep my bass knob tuned low. They hit really hard and deep, but do you think I would get better performance from larger amp.
