Best way to split rca's

A y-cable isn't a problem. Voltage will stay basically the same. It creates a parallel connection which, by definition, means the voltage is the same in all branches.

The current through the circuit doubles, but line level current is so low it's not a struggle for the HU to double it.

 
i recommend putting the split at the amp when possible.

with a split the source unit sees half the input impedance, which means the impedance ratio is also half. as such, voltage is not the same, but reduced slightly. however, in mobile audio one split is not an issue.
