best way to spend 300 on a whole system?

You can pick up $50 head units from the classifieds.

Honestly, knowing all this, put as little money in to the car as you can. $50 head unit from the classifieds + a cheap used comp set. You can probably get away with $100.

everyone is having serious trouble helping you on $300.... most of us spend 1000's... If you must have a HU AND Speakers then get a used HU from the classifieds that you like and some basic coax speakers with really low power handling..... you aren't going to manage HU+AMP+Speakers+wiring on $300

I'm only running a frontstage currently and I can't even tell the factory 6x9s aren't there anymore... You won't miss the back if the comps in the front are good & amp'd....
This is an opinion, not fact. An opinion that is shared by most, to be honest, but not by all.

Some of us are holdouts and actually like the presence of rear fill, tyvm.

To the thread starter ~

Your $300 budget, unfortunately, leaves very little to work with when talking about aftermarket car audio but with a bit of patience it can be done ~ likely just not very quickly.

Is there anything specific you're wanting this $300 setup to do? Or are you just wanting to play CDs through non-blown speakers? You could spend $200 on a decent HU and then goto Pep Boys or AutoZone and get those OEM replacement speakers that are like $15/apiece and get sound...just not great (or even really good, to tell the truth) sound.

If I were you, I would get a ~200$ ish HU that you are going to want to keep, I got a new 9856 Alpine unit from crutchfield with a harness and dash kit for 200$. I like it alot, has preouts for later upgrading, and plays mp3 cds with ID3 tags.

Then I'd use 50 bucks to buy a set of decent 6.5 coaxials with low power handling (like 25wrms).

Drop the head unit in with the included harness, drop the speakers in the factory holes with the factory wiring, and bam you have better sound than stock for under 300.

When you ditch the car take the head unit with you for your next install, and sell the coaxials.

Def what I'd do.

alright so basically this is what i think im gunna do.....get a new headunit....with 22 or higher rms....n replace all the speakers with coaxials.....my only problem is i doubt i can take the headunit with me cuz the next car im gettin has a double din...so if i spent like 150-200 on a head uniot now how much can i get for it in like a year and a half?

There's an easy solution to that as well, friend. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif There are kits easily had that can adapt a single-DIN head unit to a double-DIN dash opening.
