Best way to go for a flatter response curve?

I have had my current sub stage running for a few months now, and I love the sound quality and reproduction of this woofer. The only thing I don't like about it is that it has a very peaking response curve, where it lacks in the low end (20 to 38hz), peaks at 50hz, and starts to drop off at 60-65hz. I'm not looking for much more top end, because the way I have my components and sub crossed over, they meet nicely at 80hz.

What is the better way of going for sound quality and a flatter response curve: Sealed (larger), ported, or another type of box?

BTW, in the future I'm planning to get a second 8200 and run the opti @ 2 ohms.

really depends on the sub, do you have any more t/s parameters for the subwoofer other than whats given on the eclipse site?

...That box he's describing is reminiscent of a bandpass enclosure, so I wouldn't recommend that. Really the only way to get what you want is to either go sealed, or make a low tuned ported box.

what is your current setup and the qts value of your sub, a 4th order will get loud and have a great transient responce, it all depends on how the drivers designed and the box you use.

Is there a way to guess which type will produce the flattest response? What factors would you use to make this guess?

I noticed the ID ID is peaky in a bandpass, while the IDQ is flat.

It is sealed, 1 cube net

T/S are as follows:

Fs 16hz

Qms 3.217

Vas 8.27 CuFt Air Volume Equivalent

Cms 565 u m/N compliance

Mms 192.7 grams

Rms

Xmax 1.2"

Dia 12"

Sd 256cm^2

Qes 0.484

Re 3.0 Ohms

BL 10.4 T*M

Qts 0.421

1-watt SPL 86db

Straight from the user manual

Jesus ****, an Fs of 16hz? Good christ man //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/omg.gif.05aa02c3095d6ce9338996654eca0863.gif

Anyway, I'd try putting it in a low tuned ported enclosure, or a larger sealed one.

Any recommendation as to the volume of said low tuned enclosure? Eclipse doesn't recommend any sizes as they believe this sub works best in a sealed enclosure. IIRC 80inches has had it in a ported box (and said it worked very well), but I can't remember the size/tuning.
