I would probably just do that, even the spray can stuff is $7 a can and isn't fantastic.

I use duplicolor roll on, i get it for $2.50 a quart at a flea market

duplicolor here too was like 12 bux at lowes, ised a 3/4in matt ? basically how thick the roller is.. rooled it on 3 coats and to get corners and such used a regular brush you could use a regular roller but wouldnt get any texture at all and this isnt like line-x at all really not that you would want that or expect it but to get that super rough texture you have to use a spray gun and thats a messy job

just let the thing air out a few days before stuffing it in your car it wont be pleasant for about a week

if i used a normal roller would it still get the texture on the enclosure? or would it just be like thick tough paint?

i had some left over on my 3.8 cube box, and i dont think it would give you texture unless you buy a thicker one thats like this 3/4 In. nap for medium texture surfaces...

If u bothered to search you would find a ton of info on this topic. I have used dupli color, and rustoleoum ( dupli color is better) the rusto sucks pretty bad.

I've used the Duplicolor with good results...2-3 coats and you have a nice seal that keeps the MDF from getting damaged easily...and looks a ton better than bare MDF.

also i like that its not as rough as real bedliner, and if you want less texture you can use a different roller its pretty slick though if you dont already have your box secured you definately should

Herculiner is by far the best. That stuff is durable as hell. I use it frequently

Some of rustoleum brand it is much more slick

Some of duplicolor, be kind these we're some of my first boxes years back

Also if you are just wanting the texture look. Try adding some texture into paint. A recent box I built

That last pic is a good representation of the Duplicolor applied with a roller, my stuff looked exactly the same.
