I was searching around for some new music yesterday and had a listen to some Tool, and I decided I like them a lot (The Pot, Schism). I found a couple discographies, and ****, these guys have a lot of shit out. What do you guys recommend as their best stuff? I did get a hold of 10000 days but so far I haven't been too impressed, except for The Pot.

Well my good sir you are in luck.

There best CD that has the most well rounded sound that's appealing to most folks is Aenima. It doesn't have a bad track on it IMHO, they are all wonderful. Usually I try to say listen to this album first because it's the best album to get a feel for what Tool is capable of doing. You probably don't care for 10,000 Days because a lot of the album is slow and melow. Vicarious, Jambi, Right in Two, and The pot are the easiest songs on that album to like. wings for marie part 1 and 2 are wonderful it's just you may not like it at first.

Opiate and Undertow are albums that are the earlier stages of Tool and show a more harder rock/aggressive side of Tool. Undertow you for sure need to check out all of the songs because they are all great IMHO. Especially Flood. That's a treat to catch if you ever get to see them live. I don't believe they've played that one in a while.

Lateralus is a beautiful album because it has The Grudge, The Patient, Schism, Lateralus, Parabol, and Parabola.

Salival is a live album they did which has a wonderful version of third eye and Pushit. Pushit is by far my favorite song by Tool and the Salival version just takes a wonderful song to another level by showing a softer, easier side to a harsh and aggressive song.

I hope that gives you a better understanding of the albums. Ask anyone here, I always love to discuss Tool/APC //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

well but not everyone enjoys all of Tool's work. It honestly takes a while to fully enjoy all of the songs they make. You just have to keep listening and getting a feel for what they are trying to portray as musicians. Now to say there isn't a bad track, well I somewhat agree. There are probably a few songs I could do without but for the most part they are one of those bands where you can listen to an album straight through.

salival, just download it. You won't find a copy unless you buy it used. they made a limited quantity.

I just couldnt get over the pot when they first played it on the radio, Id even listen to it on youtube at work. 2kchevy listed the song I like from that album
the pot is a great song but I enjoy Jambi and Right in Two a lot better. Justins playing in both of those songs is wonderful.

Aenima

dude for serious. and Fuk L Ron Hubbard and Fuk all his clones.

I figured with all the Tool nuthuggers on this board it wouldn't be hard. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif

Looks like I'll be picking up Aenima then, thanks.

The Pot is the most commercially stereotypical laid out mainstream-ish song they have on that album. If you don't like the progressive awesomness of the rest of the album, GTFO as you won't like Tool.

I wouldn't hesitate to pick up whatever you can find. Undertow, Aenima, Lateralus, 10,000 Days, etc. All great stuff. One thing you may want to consider is listening to each album as a whole, rather than trying to pick a song. Their albums are recorded and written in a way that each song flows together to create one larger musical piece, if you will. Amazing band with insane amounts of talent. Can't wait to see what they put out next.
