Boom
I know a guy who wants a system but doesnt have any money. He told me that he has $500 for a stereo and thats it....thats HU, amp, subs enclousure and wirez.

What can we come up with?

The car is a newer model Dodge neon with moderate trunk space, maybe 4 cubes NET total usuable.

IMO - get him started and come back for the rest later.

~$250 - Get a mid-level Pioneer or Alpine deck

~$30 - interconnects & power wire

~$75 - cheap front components

~$150 - cheap 4 ch amp (power the comps & stock rears)

tune as best as You can on the HU / amp controls.

He'll prolly be amazed by the gains in output & clarity that he'll trust You when You say "wait another month or two and we'll get You a decent sub & amp".

At that time:

~$300 for 1.0-1.5 kw

~$300 for (1) 15 (Koda, brahma, SI D2, etc..)

$0.02

I made the mistake of buying a cheaper HU. My only advice is that he get a good HU (which would mean like 200+ dollars if he's buying new). Use the rest of the money on either comps or subs.

Pioneer DEH-4700MP - About $145 shipped from Ikesound (1 year warranty). I have this one and I love it. Has great features and has a simple but appealing display. Definately gets the job done and I personally like it better than the Alpine's in it's class. Also look into the Kenwood KDC-MP428. The new Kenwood HU's are great as well.

Elemental Designs 13Kv.2 - Order now, it's only $100 due to pre production (3 year warranty). As for an enclosure - 1.5ft^3 @ 30Hz is ideal.

Profile CA400M - Around $75-80 on eBay

OR

Profile Ap700M - $99 shipped from Ikesound (1 year warranty)

Leaves you with plenty left over. Wiring, I'd use KnuKonceptz or a Wal-Mart kit should do. Build the box yourself and you might even have enough to buy a pair of lower line coaxils.

buy a $150 HU 25 wires 35 in wood and material, a 12 inch type-r or somethin for $120 and a $170 amp

http://www.ikesound.com/product-product_id/2119 amp $99http://www.ikesound.com/product-product_id/2800 CD player $159

http://www.ikesound.com/product-product_id/3158 sub $115

my friend had a 02 neon SXT and the stock speakers in there arent bad so i think they arent worth replacing right now with cheap stuff.

99+159+115=373
