i would go sony cdx-90, z-50, modded alpine 7909's the clarion peice that worked with the computerized pro audio processor (its not new only seen 1 in my life and it is bigger than xant amps in size) the clarion with the burr browns single dial (lol looks like the 'tosh) were all great decks the f 1 is pretty nice and then again so is the eclipse 8544? i dont know if i would put it right up there as the others had better processing but as a stand alone unit it kicks ***. the p9 from pioneer is a drastic improvement over what they had offered over here since they stopped with the odr units but from what im told the odr in japan is insane now. im just waiting for sony to return to high end over here i know they are getting p/o'ed about their rep as in recent years thing is people dont understand about them is they probably spent more and did more in r and d than any two of the other companies combined and if they wanted to put out another killer line they could but they have to decide if the investment is worth it.

the z-50 is equal to the f1 status now and the z 50 is like 6 years old. the reason why es died here was because it was lossing alot of money so sony pulled the plug totally. i blame that on its marketing as most of the people who bought the stuff like the c-90 are nerdy like i am lol

Those old Sony ES lines were nice, that Comp set with the ceramic (cone or coil former I forget) were pretty nice pieces.

they still have stuff like that in japan that z-50 i was talking about was a deck, cd changer, processor package that retailed for like 8-10 grand. one of the magizine reviewers often made refference to it vs decks he was testing/reviewing (iirc it was a car stereo review columnist as he owned one i do believe)

Nakamichi mb100 or cd700 lots of money but if you want two of cleanest and best sounding on the market that is the way to go. (CD700 being the best)
