BEST SQ Head Unit Under $200 Bucks

I'm not saying I'm a "Know-it-all", but when Clarion is concerned I might as well be. They've had some rough patches as MOST companies have. While things have changed in the corporation, they've stayed the same.

The only units by Clarion I haven't had time with are the DXZ###USB, the DRX/Z9255. The others, well... I own. Over 30 Clarion HU's in all that I have.

I just want to keep it simple and put in a Clarion CX501. All I use my 702 for is the Bluetooth and the CD player, and I really like the CX501.
I have a CX501 myself and I really like it. Great flexibility with having not only BT but a usb that controls ipods and also will play thumb drives also has the aux 3.5 mm jack you can plug just about any kind of source into it you want. It has a sweet illumination setting lets you customize the color to match your factory look really easy. OP you can find this unit under 200 easy and it is well worth it. The eq features built into the unit are actually decent considering the price.

So you basically have not used the ones that are most pertinent to this thread? IE: DXZ775USB, DXZ785USB, and CZ702? Lol

Exactly where does the clarion dxz775usb fail? I have had it for about a year and a half and love it. When looking into that purchase, the HUs that looked better (eclipse mkii, mcintosh, high end pioneer) were over twice as much. I think its one of only 3 hus ive found that has USB, 24bit d/a converter, high voltage preouts and is 3 way active. Alpine 9887 does it but there are many complaints about the usb dongle thing that you have to buy separately. The eclipse and pioneers are nice but good luck finding one used for less than 3. and mcintosh, lol...

The only minor complaint i have about the dxz775 is that out of the box it does need tuning to sound good. Were talking setting crossover points and tweaking 3 or 4 other settings. If you like more than 3 bands of eq then maybe another hu would be better, but id prefer an external eq anyways. The crossover points are very flexible. The digital z enhancer and sound restorer make 320kbps mp3s sound close to cd.

I think it actually outshines the alpine 9887 in a couple specs. (CEA s/n ratio for alpine is 80 vs clarion at 84, 4v preouts vs 6)
