Best Shallow Sub

Going to be putting a small system in a 94 Z-71 Single cab pickup. The system will be more focused on SQ than SPL. The guy that I am doing it for is a good friend and listens to 100% Rock Music. I have never really messed with the shallow subs so would like opinions from people that have heard these. Which would you go with, what type of box ported or sealed and why. Will be doing a single 10 or 12 with about 450 RMS from an old school Rockford Fosgate amp. Here is the 3 subs I am looking at.

Rockford Fosgate P3 Shallow

Pioneer Premier TS-SW1241D

Elemental Designs SQ10 Subwoofer

Thanks for any and all input.

Thanks for the quick input 2critical.

Anyone ever heard any of them. I was actually leaning more towards the P3 myself but only because 10 years ago I owned some old Power DVC RF subs and they pounded.. But I can honestly say I have no experience with any of them.

I would say 5" or less. There is quite honestly very little room behind the seats in the truck. I would really like to do a ported box for him also. But I'm not even sure I can build one that will go back there. I'm gonna give it a shot though ;p

well the Dayton HO 10 from parts express is exactly 5" deep. i just picked one up and installed it and i am very impressed, i couldn't be happier actually. i would highly recommend one of these. give it up to 600 watts rms either sealed or ported but preferably ported and you'll have great SQ and it should be enough output for most. they are 4 ohm single coil woofers though. what kind of power do you have at 4 ohms?

It's an old Punch series Rockford Fosgate 2 channel Amp, so Bridged at 4 ohm would be perfect. Amp is rated 440RMS at 4ohm. The Birthsheet shows 527 RMS at 4 ohm If I remember correctly. Will look into those subs.

dude the pioneer is GARBAGE. you can get a JL Audio 10w3v3 and it will occupy the same space as the pioneer shallow sub because it has no Pole Vent so you can put the box right up to the motor. The pioneer has a pole vent so it needs clearance behind it.

well i am putting 400 watts rms to my Dayton 10 in a small ported box tuned to just a hair under 30Hz and it sounds amazing and gets pretty loud. it should be enough for rock/metal for most people.

so if you really have 5.5" of depth to work with then this could possibly be the sub for you. the pole is vented on the Dayton so you would leave at least a half an inch from the back of the motor to the back of the box.
