best placement for radar detectors?

I was just wondering if there was a specific place and way you should mount a radar detector for best results? Ive seen some people put it in the middle on their dash. But I have also seen people put it on the middle of their windshield.

If it needs to go on the dash does it need to be sitting level, or faced a little downward, or upward?

There might not be any difference but I was just kind of curious. Thanks.

a little off the dash in the window. putting it up in the window may help in the mountains a little, but why advertise your radar detector?

haha well think about.. which way it points .. because i am not going to tell you if your that dumb
I didn't ask which way to point it. So maybe your the dumb one who can't read properly. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

i'm no expert on radar, but i'm sure the metal on the hood and the dash could possibly interfere with receiving the radar signals. just so you know, radar detectors are next to useless for detecting the laser radar that some cops have.

The best placement is as high up as possible in the center of the car, with no obstructions, front or rear.

Also, watch the tail lights in front of you. They use what's called POP radar today (short bursts on/off of their radar gun), which does not give you enough warning time to slow down, so be careful!

Pick up a Valentine 1 if you want the best protection out there...

also in most tests the Valentine one did not detect POP at all //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

BUT the 8500 X50 did and its a lot cheaper //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

best idea is to get a radar jammer, most cops will turn on their radars at the last minute, before your detector can detect it. and once it does, its too late.
Ive thought about that before but I didn't know how well they actually worked.

most CHP have theirs on all the time and i detect most of em about 1/4 a mile away with my 8500 X50 //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

don't waste your money on valentine 1 or rocky mountain. they are no better than a good quality 75 dollar detector.

your detector will still work if there are other cars on the road being painted with the gun. if you're the lone vehicle at 2 am, just go the speed limit.
