Best HU for me?

Well, I think it's time to upgrade my Pioneer DEH-6400 although it's a great deck.

I am looking into Alpine mostly, just for something different - these Pioneer displays are getting old.

I was doing alot of searching, but thought I might post in this thread to make it easier for myself.

What's a good Alpine unit, (I dont need time alignment, crossover options, or anything like that) that has a USB connection for MP3 player, CD player that plays CDRWs, MP3, wmas - all of that for my burnt CDs, that's under $200.00? I just need a nice headunit, capable of playing my Zune files and CDs with some nice tuning options - nothing super SQ related is needed.

Oh and if the illumination consists of blue/green/red, that's def. a plus, but dash matching isnt my main concern.

I know your looking at Alpine, but i just wanted to say the the new Pioneer deh-4900ib is an awesome deck, ive had mine for almost a week now, and I love it, especially the direct iPod control //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Zune? thats a MP3 player right?

For the iPod control on that deck, its one single cable that is a direct connection from the deck to the iPod and you can scroll through your iPod on the deck

will your Zune work? idk, i believe its MP3 compatable so it may

Is Alpine the only brand you're considering?

Kenwood has a very different display than does Pioneer and the KDC-X591 (one of Kenwood's eXcelon units) plays .mp3, .wma, and .aac (unprotected) files, has both USB and RCA aux. inputs, 3 sets of preamp outputs, 24-bit D/A converters, a decent internal crossover network (even though you said it wasn't a requirement) etc etc.

If you would be willing to add 5 feet of 18awg speaker wire (that you could either use or throw away at your option) to the order I can get you one BNIB from an authorized vendor with a valid 2yr warranty for $180.99/shipped. Well, the HU + the 5ft of Install Edge 18awg speaker wire for that price shipped...

Idk about Kenwood man, I don't have any experience with their headunits, but I don't think I like the displays that much. Their two-button faces are ugly.. and the illumination isn't great. Idk.. sounds like a good option, but the looks aren't too hot. You said 181 shipped? I saw online like 140 shipped, I mean.. no warranty and no wire, ok well 181 sounds like a good deal, I'll keep that in mind man.

The 4900ib on the other hand looks amazing, I have heard some good stuff about that HU too.. so that Pioneer deck is an option.

Any Alpine units that meet my criteria? I'm just interested in trying out Alpine for a change, but if it comes down to and there are no alpine units that match all of that criteria than that 4900ib would be what I get.

That I do understand. I went through a few other manufacturers' offerings when I first started in the hobby back in the mid-80s until I happened across my first Kenwood deck (dual-shaft model! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif)

That Kenwood treated me so good for what it was that I haven't owned another brand of HU since.

Matter of fact the fella I sold that first Kenwood deck still to this day has it in the dash of his '84 Monte Carlo SS.
