I am helping a friend set up a system in his explorer. He just got two 10's, and now he needs new speakers. I was considering amping the speakers so the bass doesnt drown out the highs. I was wondering what speakers will give the best overall highs for 5x7 or 6x8. Please help me out, Thanks.

Currently using the JBL 8652's they have great power handling and an external crossover which really seems to help the image clarity and they're plenty loud. The highs are smooth and tight ...even when I push them they never distort. They also have a gimmicky "positionable" tweeter which, I guess does help but ever so slightly. I picked them up for just over $100 a pair. I think I saw them at crutchfield for about $200. I would recommend damping your panels and using a baffle. There are a few more out there that really sound good though....Infinity, Polk, Alpine even Pioneer. Really depends on your price range. Also there are some excellent component systems for 6x8 enclosures.

i wouldn't get 6x8's or 5x7s. i would buy some 6.5's because they will sound much better for highs atleast. if they don't fit ur factory openings they make some adapters to make them fit.

if you really want 5x7"s, i would go with either Eclipse or Boston. they make some nice stuff. definitly want to put an amp to those if you get them though.

Why would 6.5s sound better for highs? Can't a 6x8 have a comparable tweeter(s) to a 6.5? I'm looking at getting some alpine type s 5x7/6x8s or some RFs 3 ways. How do you guys think those would sound? I will also have 2 pairs of 6.5 type r components to go along with them. Thanks.

a tweeter is a tweeter. the part that the 6x8 will lack in is overall bass reproduction. a roun driver such as a 6-1/2 will have a better coverage of lower frequencies.
