running a redtop under the hood. don't want to add a second batt. so i want to replace the redtop with the biggest/best battery that will work well under the hood. running ab 2500 wrms w/ 137a alt big 3 done already

i was considering picking up a die hard platinum which are supposed to be rebadged odyessy batts. any other suggestions under $200?

I don't think you will find any single batt will power 2500wrms from the front of the car. The most you can get is about 2400wrms from a group 31 in the rear. Group 31 would be like a Kinetik 2400, PM D3100, etc.

IMHO, keep the redtop in the front and add a G31 in the rear. If you don't like that advice, then don't ask again. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

if you are on a budget, do the opposite. put the dry cell in the rear and the wet cell under the hood
You are talking out your *** here dude. All of the batteries everyone uses are wet cell batteries. Dry cells are like alkaline or NiCd batteries. All lead acid batteries are wet cells. Some are flooded, some are AGM.

To the OP, leave the redtop under the hood. It is a cranking battery by design. That is where it belongs. Place a group 31 AGM in the trunk closest to the amps as possible. You always want the bigger battery as close to the amps as possible.

(This is all assuming that your amps draw more current than your starter)

so then, should i have the redtop under the hood and the original in the rear then?

When you say "original" you mean a flooded battery? If so, you should not use a flooded battery and an AGM battery in the same circuit. Flooded batteries rest at a lower voltage than an AGM does. That will lead to the flooded battery draining the AGM.

There are different types of AGM batteries. A red top is designed for starting a car. A yellow top is designed (poorly) to power other electronics. The reason I say poorly is because of the thin plates lead to shorter life spans. Deep cycling a thin plate battery is going to severly limit the lifespan of the battery. The less lead in the plate, the shorter the life.

actually i'm running closer to 2000w sorry. i ran a similar setup in my older jeep using the redtop and a stinger sp800 rock solid voltage no dimming. sold the sp800 thinkin i can get by with just the redtop but i get pretty bad dimming. i figured i could find a battery that would fit under the hood and give me similar power of the two batts. didn't want to give up the space under the seats .

A group 31 will not likely fit under the hood of your car. They are rather large. But if there were one battery that could handle 2000W RMS and start the car, it would be a G31.

There are different brands of G31, Kinetik HC2400, PM D3100, DEKA Intimidator 9A31, and others. You are sure to find plenty of people who have had great success with each of these brands.

lol yea i actually purchased a g31 blue top thinkin it would fit under my hood like an iddiot. so no one make a g31 battery that's g34 sized?
If it were g34 sized then it would be a g34, not a g31. Haha //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif
