Best Comps under $200?

I noticed the RMS of the Pioneer 720s is slightly lower than some other comps i've seen in the price range. Are these numbers accurate and if so should this be a deterrent from going with the Pioneers?

no not really. The speakers could easily get louder than some off of less watts due to being more efficient. I personally like upper MB quart models. kind of power hungry but very clear and loud.

Is there anyone out there running the new Lanzar Optidrive comps. They look pretty **** nice!

First off, OP can fit 6.5's, but he NEEDS to make sure he is recieving aprropriate spacers/baffles with his speakers. Both front and rear stock locations fit 5x8's, FYI. Not hard to work around, but just giving a heads up so he doesn't suffer sound quality issue [from poorly sealed speaker area].

Looking nice and being nice are 2 different things. Thos Lanzar have a high RMS, but could have pathetic midbass response. For example, my Type-R comps boast being able to hit 35 Hz, which is very low. But it can hit that at about 10 RMS. get anywhere near the rated RMS, your having to crossover at 80-100 HZ depending on song because the speaker sounds like it is playing ping pong.

Also, it has the name Lanzar on it. Not that they haven't been good int eh past, but their new stuff doesn't shine much. I'd have to listen to them first. There is no sensitivity shown, so they could be in the low 80's area, requiring more power to make them loud. I'd only feel safe throwing 200 RMS at these if I got them.

Ohh and hold on, have we at CA forgot proper n00b helping etiquette?

OP;

Are you planning to amp these speakers?

How much are you planning to have power wise?

What is the overall goal for the system? Loud, SQ, or a combo?

What music do you PRIMARILY listen too?

These are indeed important questions, as they determine what speakers would sound good with your tastes/preferences, and will help cut out the bad stuff.

I have not bought nor picked out an amp yet so I'm up for suggestions. The overall goal is SQ but they should be able to get fairly loud. I primarily listen to hiphop and rock.

what coin are you ready to put down for an amp? SQ is *generally* proportional to amount of money spent.

As far as speakers, hip-hop and rock call for a set of components that have great clean midbass, with a nice tweeter. I'd say metal dome for perfect reproduction, but silk dome if you don't want your ears to bleed //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

I'd say 100 RMS is the top a daily driver needs (per channel) unless the daily driver is also a competition car. For example, I have an amp capable of 221 RMS each channel (benched), 4 channels, but I only use 100 RMS front and 85 RMS rear. I find that it gets plenty loud for me.

Well this system certainly will not be a competition car setup. I like what I've been hearing about the Pioneer 720s and I'm considering going with them. As far as an amp goes I'm willing to spend about $200 but I'd like to save some if it's possible. I also need suggestions for my rear speakers.
