best 6 1/2"s

i am definiatly gonna get a small 2 channel to power the speakers. also i above the stock door speakers there are tweeters too. so i was thinkin maybe a componet set, or just get a pair of 6 1/2's and then some seperate tweeters.

Then you would either need to custom build a set of passive xovers, or have 4 channels of amplification and buy an active xover. But if you wanna go the DIY route, there are some killer speakers available for really good prices.

How much you lookin' to spend, and do you think you wanna fiddle around with the DIY thing?

Hehe...you can start a new thread, I don't wanna whore up this one if he doesn't want to go that route. However, with $500, you could build a very nice DIY comp set, assuming you have the funds to buy the necessary amps and xovers. And it will take a lot of research, which some people don't wanna do. So, randomco, is DIY possibility or no?

Ok, it would be near impossible for me to list all of the possible speakers and combinations, so instead I'll just list some reputable speaker brands and places to buy them, and let you leaf through them yourself and see what you come up with.

Brands:

Scanspeak (Revalator series and Carbon Fiber mids)

Seas (Excels and Lotus)

Usher

Vifa (XT, MG, PL)

Morel (Supremo tweeters)

Dayton (Reference line)

Hiquphon

Focal/Audiom

Audax

Peerless (HDS, CSX, CSC)

Max Fidelity

LPG

The Scanspeak, Seas, Focal/Audioms and Morel are probably the ones considered to be "higher end". But, that doesn't discount the others. They are absolute steals for the prices. For example, the LPG are excellent tweeters even though they are relative cheap. The Reference line from Dayton can hang fairly close with the big (expensive) dogs. The Vifa XT's are what the Alpine Type-X comps are based off of. Max Fi is great for the price, as are the Hiquphon tweets. etc etc....

Here is a short list of places to find them (and other brands):

Hey there, I am kind of new to Car Stereos but I have figured out a system pretty much for my 1994 Dodge Ram CTD Std. Cab.

I am very interested in this DIY Idea as that what vehicles are for, at least to me. I listen mostly to harder music such as Metallica, Megadeth, Korn, Pantera and the such but also listen to alot of Beatles, Eagles and alot more classic rock. I dont listen to hip hop, rap or none of that. As for the system I am building it will include

Alpine CDA-9835 HU

Xtant 403A Amp for Speakers

Components in the Front & Rear

IDMAX 12 v.3 D4 Sub w/ 1000W Amp (particular Amp not figured out yet)

As for the speakers, what would you recommend for my listening style and how much cheaper is it building your own speaker system as opposed to buying one?

The more info the better, knowledge is what I need in this department Thanks

-Jared
