Bench tested Hifonics???

wow really?I had 4 t1000.1 bd amps(700+ retail) and 2 p6001bd (400+ retail) amps in less than 3 years all smoke within a year and replaced em all with hifonics "junk" and those hifonics brutus amps are still in use over 3 yrs later and sound better than the RF amps ever did. (rf forces a bass boost signal internally on both those amp models) they are impossible to make a flat wave on a scope with and that boost which creates "dirty" sound as you call it. class D is dirty period compared to A/B and will also exceed the thermal dynamics of a subwoofer 2 to 3 times faster than a comparable wattage A/B amp will leading to woofer damage that much faster if not corrected immediately.
Sounds like you abused your car audio equipment. There are many many many stories of people running RF, Kicker, JL Audio and other companies for over 5 years with no problems. I ran 2 punch 75's in the 1990s for over 7 years before selling my vehicle. Even my old JL Audio amps ran for 5 years with no problems. Stories like this far exceed the reliability of the Hifonics amps.

Hifonics = meh... But its ok. If it is in your price range then go for it, just dont look for rated power!!! look for less! also they get extremely HOT EXTREMELY HOT! at 1ohm daily just to let you know
never had that problem with none of the brutus amps i have had (1606 & 2607) but they are solid amps imo might not do rated power but great for the money

I agree, maby I got a good bxi, but mine runs way cool

even if I get careless with it, it always runs cool.

Hifonics good brand. Haven't had a problem with them yet. They do not do rated power but have improved over the years. The 07-09 BXI 2607-2609 amps do around 2100 RMS, the 2610 does around 2300 RMS, also the 2610 has new heat shrink, hardly gets warm compared to the 07, 08, 09 modles. I had an Autotek SX 1700 pusing my subs, than I upgraded to the 2610. Haven't had a problem with it, does get a little warm but not hot unless you run it over 2-4 hours depending on what your playing, and what you have it hooked up to. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/cool.gif.3bcaf8f141236c00f8044d07150e34f7.gif//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/eek.gif.771b7a90cf45cabdc554ff1121c21c4a.gif//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/tongue.gif.6130eb82179565f6db8d26d6001dcd24.gif

i know this is an old thread but a friend of mine has a brutus 1300 or 1600 watt amp powering his 2 12's and that thing slams. way harder than my mrp m1000 which i use the same subs. he can crank it up and it doesnt even get the slightest bit warm at all and its atleast 3 years old

i have yet to see a valid bench test that proves they do not do power

no pics no vids nothing ever

I have however seen just the opposite and several times they have been just over the rated power expected //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

I've been bench testing and also doing distortion anilizing(spelling) on every amp Ive worked on over the years when I get done fixing them..including many many hifonics ever sense series 7 which were my favorites...generally the ones zed made were underrated at least a little..I just fixed a zed US acoustics 2050 and got about 64 a channel out of it...both channels driven at 4 ohms using a 1k signal at less than 1% distortion(on load resistors)..so that one wasnt much more but it was over the advertised rating...I could have driven it higher but I do my tests before hitting 1% cause in my opinion anything over 1% is dirty...but as we know some amps are rated at crazy figures like 2 and 3% distortion...Hi Fonics has a ton of history and is one of my favorite amps out there at least the old ones..They hold many benchmarks from the car audio world and hold the "first of" in many classes...go to ZED's website and you can learn more about the early history of hi-fonics...not every one was perfect but most were way above and beyond what they were claimed to be...I have been the proud owner of many old school hi-fonics amps over the years and still like them today...

I have but never actually seen one that was"blown up"just silly little problems..I had a guy bring me one( a brutus series) about 2 weeks ago and it had been running so hot that the power supply transformer had started to fall out of it..(He had it mounted in a boat if that matters)....anyway I just resoldered it and it ran fine...I was looking for his ticket to get the specs off of it from when I tested it but my self appointed daughter/secretary must have filed it as complete and I have no idea what happens to stuff once it leaves the general area around my bench.Generally Class D amps have higher distortion figures than a class AB to start with but I know this amp couldnt have been far from normal or at least what I was expecting to see or I would have remembered it and I'd still be talking bad about it to someone...

Usually class D amps are pretty reliable reguarless of the manufacturer..they are efficient and run cooler than comp. AB amps and seem to have more failures due to breakage(literally) of parts due to shock or vibration and solder issues...as compared to actually blowing up..and if one does actually blow up hard...if its a really big one it might not be worth fixing due to the high part count as far as replacing parts goes and the hours involved in doing the repair..it can take 4 or 5 hours sometimes to put one back together again....

Lately I've gotten alot of stuff out of other shops that couldnt be fixed and people ship it to me "just to make sure" and I've been fixing them..so its been alot of fun fixing stuff others have turned away but even though..I still dont see many Hi-fonics amps and usually they have minor issues when I do...

Good luck with whatever you decide...Amprepairman...

Yep, at the amplifiers. I get the same 14.7 volt reading when they cutoff too.

Pull it and test it at the battery post. Simple Power up test to verify if it powers up fine out of protect mode. if it does then Id be checking...

Yes, they are painted. The cover is very easy to take off and repaint to whatever color of choice to match the install.
