Despite what we were told as kids, martial artists are not required to register their hands and feet as deadly weapons. However, whether the hands and feet of a martial artist can ever be considered as deadly weapons is a major issue currently before the courts. The debate is as follows.

Where death or serious bodily injury results from the inappropriate use of one's hands or feet, should a jury, under the circumstances of the case, be allowed to consider whether those hands or feet constituted deadly weapons under the above definition?

A plurality of the courts (AL, AZ, AR, CA, FL, ID, IL, LA, MA, MI, MO, NE, NY, OR, TN, UT, and WI) have taken the view that hands and feet should not be considered deadly weapons. Most have reasoned that when enacting dangerous weapons statutes, legislators intended to control the use of instruments that are external to the body, not a part of the body, and therefore, hands and feet cannot be classified as deadly weapons.

Im in now way shape or form a karate expert nor have I ever taken a class before. I know what he's talkin about though. People who are "proficient" in a style of fighting can often be sued or charged for assualt with a deadly weapon. This also includes stuff like boxing, real martial arts, and mma.

lol like most of the people here have been saying, just let it go. You will run into your share of assholes in your life, and you can't treat this one in any special manner. 1) he's not worth your time, i mean come on, he's a druggy. 2) she's doesn't sound like a stellar girl either...remember dude theres a LOT of fish in the sea. Don't be distracted by jus one.

Oh and biggest reason, you're 15! It's not like there's some marriage involved, or worse, kids. It's just two youths and their egos, you gotta learn some time, may as well make this now. Or dont, and fight him and possibly spend the next few years paying for it, in which case you'll REALLY learn then, and unfortunately the hard way.

Your not considered a lethal weapon, being good in martial arts actually saved me in court last year. I got into a fight with a kid, he tried to get me in trouble becuase he hurt his back or some bullshit like that. Basically when the judge found out I could have broken put the kid in the hospital with no real effort he knew there was no way I "lost control" and went wacko on him like he claimed. I had my instructor testify, haha. He ended up getting assault charges, I got away with self defense so he had to pay his own bills.

PS. I'm 5.5 150lbs and an overweight nerd who just really liked martial arts, dont' judge a book by it's cover, you'll end up being very suprised one day.

to the OP, why not go to your sensay(sp? about this. Telling him what's up and taht you've ignored it but feel threatened for your safety, see what he recommends for a productive course of action. He is the one who'd konw you better, know the enviroment better and would be the one offering advice simply for your good.

Tell him what you feel needs to be said. If he gets in your face, warn him once. If he does it again, hit him fast and hard before he knows whats going on. I would suggest stepping in with a nice well planted forearm blow to the head. Really throw your weight into it if your sure you can hit him. If he's not expecting it, he will more than likely be knocked down half silly, and probably allow you to walk away from the situation. Make sure hes not getting up though. Be prepared to give him a quick stomp or two to keep him down if your first gesture doesnt give him the picture. As always, Best to have a freind for backup just in case he tries somthing crazy. Other than that, just be sure not to get arrested. **** assholes. Your still young enough to beat some *** without going up the river. Use it Wisely.
