Beer 30

Number 2 bishes. The Brown Ale(they are clever with the names)

More my speed. Typical dark ale. More malt and chocolaty flavor. Not too dark or too thick. Not too bad at all. You can still see through it, but barely. I could see myself putting down another ones of these by choice.

Wow, that looks good!! I might have to pick up some of that this weekend!

3rd is the namesake. Brooklyn lager. Basically a Sam Adams IMO.

I don't find a difference between this and SA at all. Of course I will have to get some SA side by side to see if there is a little difference, but not noticeable off memory.

So, basically you're saying its more of a run-of-the-mill type lager then? They do use Mittelfrueh hops (German style) but also American (Cascade). Sam Adams Boston Lager was available here a few years back when it had a pronounced hop flavour. I then tried SA it when I was in Chicago and was looking forward to it.

I was very disappointed.

I admittedly haven't had a SA in a long time. Basically since I lived in Chicago(dad drinks it religiously). However I find nothing to distinguishable over this an any other micro lager.

4th and final from Brooklyn beer party pack. The pennant ale. I like it. In fact I find it better than a Bass(I know it's commercial but it is my reference point as I do enjoy them frequently). Very prominent hop flavor without getting bitter. Very fresh taste to it. Refreshing all the way. The pour is important because like most pale ales the head can become unmanageable if not poured right. I got a good 2 fingers in on my pour. This and the brown ale make this pack worth the money.

Bass uses Marris Otter malt, which is very distinguishable and is a premium English malt. It also uses all English hops, whereas the Brooklyn uses a combination of English and American hops. You mention a more forward hop flavour. The longer you boil hops the more bitterness you achieve. It's possible that hops are added later on in the boil period for the Brooklyn beer.

Looks quite dark actually. Did the head stay to the end on any of the beers you had, or did it dissipate rather quickly?

I still had a sliver of head left at the last sip on the pennant. The others dissipated by half way through.

OK not a Brooklyn brew, but I saw this while browsing for a Vodka bottle to add to my extensive collection and this caught my eye there. It is terrapin Rye Pale Ale. For a pale ale it is a diluted hop flavor. The rye gives it a sweet character akin to a weisse. The flavors are too diluted for me to call it "excellent" but a decent attempt. More hop flavor with a hint of the rye would have been better. This is brewed in Athens GA.

BTW the head was disappointing on this one and was gone after the first few sips.

Interesting. I can understand the weisse-like character, but it almost sounds like the beer is unbalanced (too sweet). Probably trying to appease the 'swill' crowd.

It sounds like you won't be getting that one again eh?

That's pretty good. Probably had lace going all the way down the glass too //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
