Hello all,
Wifey just got new car and so did I- (I got her old one) its a 2004 mercury mountaineer premier.
Back in the day (94-2000ish) I had a 1984 grand prix w/ t-tops had 2 jl audio w5 subs (dual 4 ohm) with a rockford power 300 amp, I also ran a punch 200 dsm for a while on them. both amps drove them nice though the power 300 had more ***. i had them in a sealed enclosure first then went to ported, i liked the ported a little better. for top end I had 2 fultron tweeters in the dash, two three inch 1 way speakers in front dash. 4 rockford fosgate 4 inch punch's in the doors. 2 6x9's in rear sides and two more tweeters in rear dash I don't remember what brand the tweeters were the 6x9's I think were boston's. for top amp I had a alpine 4 channel (don't remember which model) and a old school pioneer amp dont remember wich model either but was 100 x 2 I had it on the 6x9s, the alpine front channels ran dash 3.5's and front dash tweets rear channels ran fosgate 4 inch and rear tweets. I think it was something like 50 watts x 4.
O.K. I'm looking to get something close in the mountaineer. I'm figuring on spending300-600 or so on a head unit, 200 apiece for subs, front stage I'm thinking 300 or so, rear stage????? as far as the amps go, Im not really suremaybe 300-400 a piece? In order to spend this kind of loot I will have to do it in stages.
The head unit will be first up grade, My local dealer, Ergo car audio, carries kenwood excelon. I think I want a double din, looking for steering wheel control, sirius capability, blue tooth. He has one with navigition too, but it is 800$ (not sure if I want to pull the trigger on that much) the other on is just under 500, both are on sale, not sure of model #'s sorry. I guess here my only question is are these a decent head unit? if they are absolute **** please advise.
I know i want 2- 12" subs my choices so far are=
Rockford fosgate p312d4
jl audio 12 w3 (dont know specific model)
or sundown audio sa 12d4
I havent heard any of them, I have a rockford dealer pretty close to me and the jl dealer is about 30 miles from me. I dont know where a sundown dealer is. I live just southwest of Erie, Pa.any input here would be welcome. also should I go with another brand sub? i would be in the $200ish range.
As far as amps, I'm lost in space. If I went with rockford it would be power series. I even thought of old school stuff ( Rockford, ppi, us amps) But a warranty would be nice. suggestions for amps would be greatly appreciated.
front stage the only thing I've heard is rockford. the t3652 power series. I also travel to pittsburgh once in a while( visiting in-laws) I stopped at a truck accesery place in bridgville, he told me to stick with jl audio but had nothing to show me or let me listen t0.
sorry for such a long post but i wanted to give as much info as possible. If I left anything out I'm sorry. any help would be much appreciated.
Thank you,
Eric
