Who thinks this is an "Aero"?

I've noticed this trend on this and many other sites and I see many people perpetuating the information that this is an aero. It is not. It is a round vent, in this case manifested by a PVC pipe. A round vent is simply that; round.

Aero is short for aerodynamic. Aerodynamic indicates a low drag coefficient. A round vent cut flush with the surface of the MDF, or whatever you're building with, is not aerodynamic at all. A flared end is what constitutes the term "aero" and facilitates the aerodynamics for a round vent, or any other cross section for that matter.

so the what happends when people used flaired aeros with one end not flaired(which 99% of people use)?

wouldnt that constitute not aero?

then technically the only aero part would be the flair at the end of the port

but the end of the port flair should not have as big of an effect if any with being flaired

this could be in accurate im just guessing btw

officially it is a double flair port, aka. the matt jordan since no one else named it yet.

One flared end is better than no flare but still half-a$$ed in my opinion. I would assume most people use two flared ends if they had the inclination to use an aero to begin with.

The whole point of the flare is to reduce drag and increase efficiency, ultimately reducing compression and turbulence.

Flared ends mainly benefit those who want to retain the use of a small cross section area. You could easily overcome the effects of compression by simply going overkill with cross section area but there are ramifications with that approach, nothing is a free lunch. It's all about the application. I simply wanted to get it out there that a round vent is not an aero as so many hold it true.

 
Again, I wasn't trying to single you out treadburner. Thanks for your answer. I was hoping for more input so that I could quote a few people just for the sake of discussion. I probably should have waited until tomorrow when more members were active. Sorry about that.
