Be honest, how much difference to a non competitor does enclosure make?

enclosure is everything
Unless you are doing IB. then enclosure is nothing //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/tongue.gif.6130eb82179565f6db8d26d6001dcd24.gif

but that is a different topic all together.

ive heard cheap speakers sound good in a well designed, implemented, and built enclosure.
so a speaker like the XXX - you are giving yourself a huge hindrance with such a small sealed enclosure unless you are making up for it in the wattage department.
well im giving it 1200 watts rms from a nine.1 amp, but that probably isn't enough im guessing.

What do you guys reccomend for size/tune/port type? I like sound quality, but i also want it to be extremely extremely hard hitting. Also, is it possible to buy decent ported enclosures in stores, or should i not even bother? It just seems expensive, i have been getting quotes for like 125 buck -150 for ported enclosures, which i am not sure if it is worth the money just for a new box.

Enclosure is a HUGE difference.

You can drop 2 G's on decent equipment and if you do a shitty install, it's going to be worthless. I've done cheap installs (sub 1 G) that have sounded great and have seen people drop a G just in subs and have no bass.
