battery or alternator

Hey, i know this is a subject that has been brought up many times. I just want to make sure my info is correct. This guy was telling me that im going to need a deep cycle battery when running the Tsunami amp. Well any amp over 1000W he would rec. a deep cycle family. But i thought a new battery was needed if i was planning on playing my music for extended periods of time with my car off. But once its on, my alternator kicks in and i will need to replace that before a battery? Im pretty sure im correct, just didnt want to spend 100+ dollars upgrading the wrong thing.

Alternator is the first way to go.

YES! I was right. I feel educated. lol, thanks to this site, im actually learning some things. Appreciate boyz. Anywayz, i really dont know how many amps my alternator has right now. I have a 96 4door honda accord LX. Imma check into it sometime soon though. I was listening to him and he got his sales pitch down, because the battery thing was convincing, but i remembered some old threads here and wanted to make sure i was correct. Anywayz, i really think i need to upgrade it now because with my factory speakers my head unit dims. Not so much the headlights, but headunit dims noticeably. Oh well, do any of you have any ideas on what i should get it rewounded too and approx. how much its going to cost? (Dang, i never noticed having a decent system is costly) Anyways, appreciate the replies and help over the period i've been here. All of you (well most) are respectable guys
