Basspig's rig

Seems a bit waist, too much speaker for that basement unless it goes back 100ft.....

Where did he get those EVX-180B's? I have never seen one that had more than .25 inch Xmax. And, I just looked at the 2007 catalog.....

Apparently bas pig is actually a retarded human.
He just bought a QSC PL9.0 PFC and it blew up in idle mode. I was reading

a pro forum thread today. He's making the attempt to fix.

So... he may be smart with electronics but maybe the PL9.0 purchase

wasn't so smart because he doesn't know the history of that item

and shoulda known it was a ticking time bomb.

His audio system is old school. I think it's better than the garbage you

see at Best Buy or CC.

re: EV woofers. I don't know about those claims. I used those woofers

over 15 years ago in my van. Last year or so I finally threw them in the garbage

because the surround rotted. The only cool thing about those woofers is the

cone material design, it's pretty robust even after a long time. There are better

woofers on the market. They will work very good in a ported box tuned higher

with high pass filter to limit excursion, that's where they will work best.

So, what flavor of EVX-180's is he using that have 1 inch Xmax?

I barely remember, but when I bought my EVX 18", there was too models.

The standard one and some uber woofer that cost tons more money,

maybe those are the ones he has? Either way, obsolete by today's standards.

Port it, tune higher for music, high pass filter, it will kick some butt for ancient

woofers. But not for HT sub in the single digit hz. hehehe

They are a rock PA sub driver......

And they kicked *** at that... But, the higher version took more wattage 2000 Watts vs the normal 1000 watts if I remember correctly....

I have only played with the 1000 watt versions....

The Adamson SD21 is the new bad *** of PA Subwoofers.
The only reason you like it is because

Basspig posted that he's running four of these woofers plus those EV's.

Bassmax woofers. Looks like TC Sounds LMS-5400 with neo magnet.

Basspig said "The basket looks like a common part between the two, but the motor and suspension system are built differently. The coil is 10" long and the gap in the neo motor is 5" deep.

The reason I went with the neo-based is because I don't have 50,000 watts to drive it with to get the SPLs I was looking for. The advantage of neo is about 6dB more sensitivity--about 1/4 the power needed to produce the SPL. And when you do throw 3.5kW at the Bassmaxx, it can produce 154dB @ 1 meter.

I rather stupidly insisted on using four of them, since four Altec 3184s were nowhere near enough, and I figured no matter how good the Bassmaxx would be, that I'd better not decrease the number of drivers. Boy, did I ever screw up! Now the system is bottom-heavy. I decided not to utilize dual bridge mono Powerlight 6.0s to drive these two pairs because a single Powerlight in stereo turned out to produce more than enough to overpower every other driver in the system. To get a flat response, I must roll off the low end with EQ below 25Hz. The ground hasn't shaken like this since I had a percussion well digger on the property. "
