It's a subwoofer. It's meant to produce sounds below 80Hz or so. It's a relatively good value for what it is, but you should try to listen to as many different setups as you can that fit your budget and listening styles before deciding on what's the best for you.

Because that is the most intelligent answer you will ever recieve on this forum from just about anybody, especially about the Alpine Type R. I mean seriously there is a whole Sticky at the top of the page dedicated to the Type R.
