Bass cutting out

yep, sanded it down and everything. I've run this setup for almost two years without any problems until recently so Its kind of frustrating me.

Do your fuses blow at all if you keep listening to the song at the same volume level with no bass?

Dont mean to thread jack or anything(even tho i might) But if you set your gain all the way full on a say 1000w amp does that mean ur pushing 1kw and if its halfway only 500w?

How hot are amp supposed to get, because mine has been very very hot but don't know if thats the problem or not

Amps can get a little hot, but if it starts to burn your hand after just a few seconds, then yeah it's overheating.

*provided the amp isn't sitting in direct sunlight*

its not in direct sunlight but is in my trunk and the temp here is in the 90's all day. what could cause it to be getting so hot?

I tore the HU out and checked all my wiring, changed the ring terminals on power and ground but now it cuts out when the volume is low. when it is high the bass pounds but sometimes when the volume is lower or there is a track with little bass, the subs completely shut off. I watched the amp when this happened and it wasn't going into protect mode and stayed on so not sure whats going on now.
