Bass boost - Hate it or Love it?

What if your amp doesn't have a gain on it. It just has a bass boost. Would the bass boost act as the gain or what. Because i turned my bass boost all the way down and i barely had any output. Is this just basically my gain knob on my amp? My amp has never went into protect or anything so i don't think its clipping.

Most amplifiers don't have clipping protection. It's mainly for thermal and/or load protection.

every 3dB increase in SPL requires double the power.

so lets say you have a 1000W amp with the gains set correctly to put out the full 1000W when turned up.

if it has an 18dB bass boost and you turn that all the way up it would require 64000W!

obviously the amp won't be able to put out this power and will just clip the signal.

even very little bass boost is almost guaranteed to cause clipping once you turn it up.

when i had my profile last year for my coax's, i threw the bass boost on there and was happy with it, alot. just no need for it if you have comps or coaxs xover ( of course, i was running full range). the only bass boost i would take for a sub would be at 35Hz or lower

variable bass boost > just a 1 button boost

but like i said if i have the bass boost all the way down its so soft. It might be because my preamp output on my head unit isn't that high. I think they are 2 volt preamp outputs. If everything sounds fine and nuthings wrong then whats wrong with having the bass boost. My amp doesn't have a gain knob. Are there many amps like that or what? I don't get y i don't have a gain knob on my amp.

hifonics amp gain is labeled "level" so there is a gain knob on ure amp...

naw it says bass eq....i have a hifonics titan txi6006 and there is nothing labeled gain or level just bass eq, low pass, high pass, and input level. So i dont' think i have a gain.

I still dont understand why they even have a control for bass boost. Not having a bass boost on an amp would probably save subwoofer companys alot of hastle. Newbs like me turn the bass boost up and in turn fry their subwoofer. Essentially for nothing.

they add a bass boost to their product because they want the "cool" people to turn it on and someday blow up there amp. Where the amp blows, they will buy another one or call the company for a repair. It's the MONEY issue, is what companies are after.

yup and when the "cool" people turn it on they will think "omgz! it puts out louder bass when in actually it's prolly clippin the signal to hell"

IMO i dont think that bass boost hurts anything as long as it is set responsibly.... for example... before i set my gains with a dmm i put my bass boost at a conservative level an then set gains AFTER setting bass boost.... then a clip problem wont occur..... (or not near as bad)
