Bad tweeter

I purchased a set of these Boston Acoustics Pro Series 6.5 almost a year ago. I got them used from a friend who uninstalled them from a local car dealership. Anyway, the set has been working great for me, up until yesterday. I got out of class, went to my car turned it on around normal listening level, and the driver side tweeter is now making a horrible sound crackling and things of that nature. What else could it be besides the tweeter, could the crossover have gone bad only in the tweeter section? Are these components prone to having problems? Are the mid bass drivers worth saving? Also, if it is the tweeter, what would you replace it with other than another BA tweeter of the same series?

i had the same problem a month ago with my hertz HT25 tweeter, you couldnt notice the cracking at higher volumes, ended ups witching that tweeter to a HT20, problem solved
