Bad smell + heat

Well, I had two Memphis 1100d amps hooked up to my stupid 15" Shocker Super Extreme woofer. We were running test tones and shit for like... atleast a half an hour... After awhile we could smell something funny, so we popped the trunk and started spelling into the ports and it smelled weird as HELL. It wasn't a fire burning smell or anything, but it just didn't smell right. We noticed the sub doesn't really seem QUITE as loud, but it move normal, sounds normal, and the cone isn't heated anymore either. It doesn't smell anymore either, but we have been taking it easy on it. What happened exactly? Did we fry a voice coil? Is it just getting wore in for the first time? Kind of makes you worry when that happens haha.

Well, finally found out that it was not a good smell. Good thing I told my friend that if he blew it he owed me money, because he ended up blowing it AND burned up one of his amps. Now I guess i'll be getting some new 12"s.... I was thinking of either 2 dual 4 ohm subs or three dual 6, but the only dual six I can find are the alum series audiobahns. Any dual 6 you think that can handle around 3000 watts to three subs? Or 2 subs that can handle around 3000 watts that are dual 4 ohm?
