Bad radio reception

My kenwood head unit freaked out and gave error messages a couple weeks back. ended up getting it to work by fixing all the connections behind the dash(there were many splices now its all cleaned up) But it got crappy radio reception.

So the place I bought it from gave me a brand new deck......still got crappy radio reception.

Replaced the antenna and cable with one I ordered off of ebay its a little better but.....I still get crappy radio reception.

I am pissed because it wasnt like this before the deck freaked out. Could it be possible that the ground on the factory wiring harness is not so great any more? could this have any thing to do with radio reception??

please help //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

That's very possible. Any antenna will work better with a good ground, whether it be car, TV, radio, etc. Try that as the primary solution. If that doesn't work, maybe a new HU is the only fix in store.

You said that you did replace the antenna, but was the connector the the rear of the HU part of that replacement? I'm assuming it was but if not then it's possible that could have been shorted out.

Yes when I replaced the antenna I replaced every thing all the way down to the stereo.

Also the first attempt at fixing the problem was stereo whearhouse just giving me a new head unit so from the HU all the way to the antenna are brand new //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

Or get satellite radio. That's what I did to make up for the crappy coverage around here, and once you get used to it for a week or so, you probably will almost never listen to local FM again unless you want maybe local news. I think you can get a Roady2 XM receiver now for like $30... then a $15 activation fee... then $12 a month and you're set!

Thanks but I live IN seattle and my radio reception used to be good now it never is even with a new deck and antena. Trying to fix the proplem not halfass or cover it up.

Is it ok to ground the HU to a bolt behind the dash? Im going to try this tomorrow and see if its better
