was driving at work today and blew the cv joint on my truck. come to find out, the front differential is trashed and the frame is cracked in several places. they sent it to get fixed, but i have to drive another truck for a while. hopefully it doesn't snow. i love plowing in my truck. i was also bringing a truck down to the shop from our 2nd yard to do routine maintenance on the plow, which is about 10 blocks away. transmission went out halfway there. 10 minutes before i got off work, we got a call that one of our idiot sweeper drivers put unleaded in a diesel. had to tow it back and drop the tank. it's supposed to be a friday and monday shit happened all day.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/verymad.gif.3f39c5c2fd57527b671fad3efdfac756.gif

You cracked the frame by blowing out a cv shaft or was it already like that and you just discovered it?
it was like that. i work the shit out of that truck. the cv joint fell out because the differential was out. apparently. it's a 1/2 ton truck and has done things it shouldn't have over the last 2 years. it's probably had a cracked frame since summer. one of my co-workers had the truck before i did. he got a newer one (seniority) and i moved into his. he routinely over loaded it. he pulled a bobcat in it many times this summer, so i think that may have been a major cause.

We always have our trucks in and out of service weekly just so we don' t run into these type of situations. Is nice as my dad is also a manager of a Midas besides owning his on landscape/plowing business. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Don't you guys have routine maintence done on your trucks?

yes. however, we have 1 mechanic and 34 trucks, 6 bobcats, 6 sweeper trucks and 14 atv's. he can't keep up. maybe they'll hire him some help now.

Do you work for the city or something? I am not sure what is like over there, but we don't have anything like that around our area that I know of. Yours sounds like a city job or excavator business.

We have 6 trucks, a bunch of plows, only a couple ATV's and a bunch of landscaping equipment. We also have as many trailers as trucks. Is a small family owned business. Plus we have a few mechanics if anything happens thanks to my dad.

I can't believe you have one mechanic with all those vechichles and ATV's. That is just ridiculous if you ask me.

it's a private business. common area maintenance. also family owned.

we've grown ridiculously fast. i'm a maintenance tech when it doesn't snow. they're trying to hire another mechanic, but it'll be seasonal and noone really wants to get laid off come summer. we are almost outgrowing ourselves. 5 years ago, it was 2 sweeper trucks and 2 plows. just last year we only had 20 trucks and 3 atv's. not to brag, but we make everyone around look bad and business is just ridiculous all the sudden. we do 84 properties and a big piece of the airport now. we really need 5 more trucks and plow drivers. i've done 3 100 hour weeks already this year.

Jesus, that sounds like a little much to me. Why wouldn't they hire more people and or at least more mechanics. Hell that is what does the work, so you don't have the vechichles or machines to use, then no money, correct? That is kinda stupid. Someone in your company needs a reality check. Not to mention people have lives, lol! I have worked quite a many hours as well, but that is crazy!

Around here we have city street sweepers and we are not really a maintence business, more a landscaping business.

You have a lot on your plate sir. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crazy.gif.c13912c32de98515d3142759a824dae7.gif

it seems like every time we get a new truck we add 2 properties. the work grows faster than equipment. i won't complain. my check last week after taxes was 2000$. i just have to stay alive through the winter.
