Bad gas mileage

Alright, I have a 1997 Honda Civic, 131k miles, I drive on the highway 95% of the time to school, it's a standard so I keep the rpms as low as possible, what are some minor tune ups I could do to increase the MPG, I would guess I am getting about 25-30 that might be normal for an older car not sure, but I am only getting about 280 miles on a full tank, I have browsed some forums and people with the same car/model are reporting 350-400, thanks.

dude you got a civic, quit complaining. i drive a F-150 that gets 15 on the highway on average without pulling anything.
I wouldn't be complaining if I didn't drive 35 miles a day just to get to school and back and work.

I have a '97 Civic, and get about 30 city and I got 37 on the highway, but I drove it nice and didn't get it above 4k rpm.

I'm seeing about 350 miles per tank, which comes to 29.x mpg, also driving like a dickhead. My car sees redline everyday, also.

Change your fuel filter, plugs (I'm using NGK Iridiums), don't need to change your plug wires unless they're cracked or dry rotted, change the oil, (I use full synthetic, Royal Purple, $7/quart) you don't need to use it, but I do it for mine, because I drive it really hard, and change it now at about 5k miles. Air filter would be a good thing to change, get a K&N hi-flow drop in replacement, distributor cap and rotor, keep your tires up to spec for the pressure, and that's all I can think of right now.

I also had another suggestion, but I lost my train of thought, so I'll post back up when I remember.

is it true that you get less mpg if you ride on e the whole time?

Depends on the car's ECU ... Generally speaking, you usually get better MPG on E as you're carrying less weight and your vehicle's ECU may attempt to maximize fuel economy so you don't run out of gas.
Of course, your fuel meter, which is terribly inaccurate, may say otherwise.

im in an explorer 96 and keeping up on the filters/oil/plugs/sensors im at bout 23 or so..... from ther 18 with dierty oil/plugs/filters....

school is 25 per day... kinda shitty...

just drive in slow lane use less rmp's as possible, i mean its n difference going slower then speed limit,.. just leave 5 mins earlier.. ull get there same time.. more time for music.. go slow in right lane...
