well this weekend we went up to a state park near santa cruz. all was well for the day. later that night my buddy decides to drive the three hours to meet us up there. before he gets parked at the campsite, he gets pulled over by a ranger on the camp site for speeding when he clearly wasnt, he was right in front of me. he makes my friend go and register his truck to our campsite and pay the 6 bucks to park, no big deal. coincidently right after we get his truck unloaded, the ranger comes over and takes a head count and tells us we are over maximum occupancy and he cant stay at the site. every other camp site is reserved leacing my buddy no place to stay.
so, i walk over to the older couple next to us and politely explain the situation and ask if he can pitch his tent on their site. they turn out to be extremely nice people. they said they have a camp site that belongs to them and the people staying on it left early in the day and we are more than welcome to use it. we offer to pay for the site for the night and they wouldnt let us, very nice of them.
all is going well and i am drunk as a skunk by now, then the ranger comes back and tells me i have to move my truck since it is in a handicapped space reserved for the hanicapped campsite. funny thing is it isnt marked or designated by any signs, it is just an overflow parking spot near the restrooms. so i decide not to argue with the guy with the gun, and go register it to our newly aqcuired camp site. now it is like 11 at night after we get all settled. i swear that the ranger is just like the cops they find dead on the side of the road.
we wake up and eat breakfast and hang out for a while. shower and what not. then we hear sirens and an ambulance, firefighter paramedics unit, and a forest fire truck shows up. the gentleman who gave us his spot had a terrible heart attack. after a half hour of resessitation they cant get him back and they helicopter him to a hospital. we dont know the condition, but are pretty sure he passed away. so the son (about 40) took off to the hospital and my friend and i helped the wife pack her camping gear into the truck since she was in no condition to or able to pack most of it herself.
what a trip. i cant stop thinking about the nice man that helped us out. feel sorry for the family and my prayers go out to them. just a little rant that i needed to get out.
