Backup Camera Help

I was advised on the G5 forum that I am not getting a good power supply from the reverse lights. I was told I need to find a switched power source for the camera and to ground it at its own ground. Any suggestion as to where to get a good switched power source? I have read the cig. lighter and I know the head unit, but is there anything in the trunk that requires a switched power source (IE tail lights?)

do a switch. that how i have mine wired. that way i can be driving and i flip the switch and i can see out back...

but the bulb wiring is fine . just make sure it reads 12v or about.

theres only 2 ways of doing it.

1- switch

2- backup light power wire. the wire that turns on ( shows 12v ) when in reverse.

Only issue with a switch is you have to turn it on when you get in the vehicle and off when you get out or you run the chance of draining the battery. I'll try to get out there and do some testing when I get home from work. Thanks for your replies.

no...

you only flip it when you back up, then flip it off when your dont backing up.

i have the camera and h/u on the same switch.

when i flip it the camera and backup screen come on.

if your not big on that then you will have to wire it up to the backup light. that way it turns on and off with the gear shifter .

Well, I did some testing today. Sorry for making it seem like it would be such a task. It was very simple, I am just not a fan or removing/replacing panels numerous times in a short period of time. As already explained, that's my fault for not checking everything from the get go before securing things. Regardless, I tested the voltage at the plug that would go into the camera and got a good reading. I switched between 6 different RCA cables that I ran previously and still couldn't get an image. If 7 different, new RCAs couldnt get the signal through, it had to be the camera. I will send the camera back tomorrow for a refund. I unhooked and clipped wires that were ran so that I don't ground anything out and will wait until I feel the need to "try again" if that ever comes. My 1st attempt at a backup camera was ****** and I am pretty discouraged to try again.
