Avic-d3?

Anyone use one yet?
I've seen people mention they own one, but it's been pretty quiet about them. Seems like it's just as good as the Z1... just, much more affordable.

Crutchfield start selling them for a grand starting Tuesday... and I've been eying them. Don't know where I'll get a grand though.

Ummm...I dunno about it being just as good as the Z1....the Z1 has an internal Hard Drive that houses nav data as well as music. The D3 has DVD based nav and the nav capability is VERY LIMITED when the nav dvd is not in the drive. The D3 is a very attractive alternative if you use an ipod for music, however if you don't have an ipod and you listen to mp3s...the D3 isn't as attractive.

I think the biggest selling point of the D3 is that it looks like a stock head unit.

And the cheaper price?
D3 have two discs (for DVD/CD)? Or do I need to replace the navigation DVD with a CD for music?
Or just buy a 4th Gen 20GB Ipod for $99 and load all your CDs onto that. Then you can leave the navi disc in all the time unless you want to watch a DVD. I decided to go this route and will still keep my Sansa e270 as my dedicated around town MP3 player. The 20GB Ipod will just act as a "hardwired" drive in the car so I don't need to use CDs.

+1

It fully supports the IPOD via an input in the fron of the unit.

Pros: Price; keep the stock double din look; ipod versatility, unlike the D2, the D3 plays DVD's.

Cons: Screen does not have separate inputs for CD's and DVD/DVD-ROM; screen is not motorized; very limited internal memory.

The D3 does have an AUX input in the front, but it has nothing to do with controlling the IPOD. The separate adapter is what you would run into the back of the HU to control the IPOD.
