I had an Auxillary Cable for mp3 run to my to trunk. It hooks up to the radio somehow. In theory is a great idea. Not totally sure how it works. I had it done a year and a half ago on my 2002 Ford Taurus for about $120. There's a switch I flip by my dash, and then I can play the mp3 player on 89.1. They said it was completely wired, no antenna signal was being sent.
I had static issues instantly, ended up taking it back twice. (It sounded like a shitty modulator would) If I wanted that, I would have bought one. All they did was change the cable to a thicker cable. The problem remained. If I use a cheap MP3 player, I still get static. If I use a good one, Its clean, but the volume is poor. I have to max everything just to get a good listen on the highway. I can't play music off the Mp3 player loud. The local radio broadcasts get much louder when maxed.
Any reason why this works so poorly? What could I do differently? ...Besides replacing the entire radio and dash unit.
