automotive training

you only learn by doing. best thing is if you want to learn get a mid to late 90s car (honda civic) drive it into the ground as things break fix them yourself. My focus had broke just about every part and I personally replaced them all. I can work on just about any car with no issue.

While I agree that hands on learning is the best method, most people can't just pick up a playtoy to learn on.

Any technical school worth their weight should have basic automotive programs available.

Also, if you're willing to get more in depth, you could try an internship at a dealership or shop. This works best if you don't expect pay, just learning.
