Auto Trader SCAM?

Ok so i was emailed by one of those people saying they would send me more money than i ask for, and then i am supposed to send them money back. I know all about those scams and how the check doesnt clear..so you send them money and you car are youre ****ed.

heres my question

I usually tell them that i am going to wait until the check is fully cleared through my bank and then i willl hand the car over and send the rest of the money and theyl stoop emailing me immidiately.

but this girl said thats fine.

Is there another part of this scam im missing here or could this be legit?

i would count on it being a scam. Why would they send more money then they have to? Well you got nothing to lose if she agreed that youll wait for the check to clear. Then again, she will probably be gone before you contact her back.

Some lenders like capitalone require you to borrow a certain amount, like $7500. When my friend bought his truck, he had to overpay and the dealer wrote him a check for the difference.

I wouls still have second thoughts even after it clears because I've heard of checks clearing one day, then being reversed later by the issuing bank leaving a negative balance.

I would hold onto your car for 5 banking days after it seems to have cleared just in case the check gets a late reverse from an outside bank.

No it is not local, however the car will be picked up locally.

It is coming from quebec i believe, but they are having someone pick it up where as they will figure shipment and such

Dont do it.

I was in a similiar situation, and was arrested for forgery and passing bad checks.

Theres no reason they would need to send you a check for over the amount in a private party sale.

tell her to sign the check over to a friend or family member to cash, then get the money from them and then pay you

Yes.

You would be acting as an agent in a fraudulent transaction by cashing the check.

The bank would hold you responsible.
