Australia, anyone lived there?

One of my friends and a friend Im just starting to hang out with are moving to australia in january. Hes got a girlfriend down there but thats the only pull. Both of them just wanna go down for 6-12 months for the experience.

They asked me to come and I said Id have to think about it. I dont have a steady job right now as I was just layed off

Im just curious what its like down there, as in grabbing a travelers visa, and packing up one bag and moving down there with nothing. Got to find a place, a job, no car etc. We'd probly all stay together (the 3 of us) Supporting yourself (I dont know the cost of living down there)

What would that be like? Anybody have experience?

you're never actually going to do this.

and what kind of work do you think you would get with a travelers visa?

Unless you have no bills what so ever, no attachments back in the states, and atleast 5grand saved up, you will just end up homeless and borrowing money just to get back. You need to pay atleast 3 months rent on an apartment, pay for food for a few months, buy some sort of transportation (even if its a bus pass) and then be willing to go job hunting every day until you find the first shit paying job you can just to scrape by unless you have some high demand skill or degree. Yeah that sounds like alot of fun!

I dont have bills, I have a cell phone and car insurance, there are no loans to my name or anything. Im from canada not the states. I have close to 15k in savings, maybe 4k in my chequing.

My friends are going for sure, and they have alot less than me.

I just wanted some opinions on living down there, if there was actually housing availble, jobs available, if it would be FUN to go to freakin australia for a while. I dont care about getting ahead in life or anything. Just if fun could be had an life experinces would be seen if you went out on the town for a night or two a week, what could be explored without a real set of wheels etc.

Im skilled at landscaping and cnc machining so Im sure I would find something. Im not worried about that. I was just looking for someone with experience I guess. Was hoping someone had been there, and could give info on hot spots, places to avoid etc

Im looking forward to going

The wildlife is a pull for me, his girlfriend lives just a bit inland from sydney, so I think there going to be posted in that area. Shes movign back to canada in a month or so, then the plan is to head back Jan 15th after the holidays

my friend lived there for the first 15 years of his life. he said be careful around spiders and ants there. they can get pretty crazy. i forget which part he lived in though. he was poverty there though and lived in a double decker bus.

if all that is true and you actually want adventure.. take your 15K and go to South East Asia.. live in a tropical climate near the beach for super cheap..

Australia has cheap money, but you would have more fun and could stay a lot longer on your money in South East Asia..

you could probably get by for 2-3 years if you lived right.
