AURA 2" Microwoofer Review

I was needing some full range speakers for a center channel install in a buddy's truck, so I suggested to him the Aura NS2-326-8a 2" microwoofer for this application. At first he looked at me kinda weird as I showed him pics of it, and somehow I convinced him to buy one if I bought one, so I ordered them.

All I can say is WOW, these things are loud considering their size. The video I made was just free air tests, but when I took them to the shop we put one in a plastic container (shown below, the mid is taped to the butt connector container) and is hooked to a Powerbass 200 watt amp. First we tried xovering it at 80 hz, then 100, then at full range and this little woofer kept up! Even my team mate's wife came out side to find out what was making so much noise, and she couldnt believe it as well. And it IS hard to believe this little thing wangs, but it does.. Its specs boast around 5mm xmax, thats half the xmax of some 10" subwoofers!

Price - $16.38 from Madisound.com and about a day delivery time. Awesome speakers, they could easily be used in doors or maybe 20-30 in a 3 cf slot box tuned to about 45 hz. Unfortunately, the Termlab wasnt working for some reason, so we couldnt meter it //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif .....as soon as I figure out why its not working, i'll meter it in vehicle.

ok, and on to the video.....its just a free air test on my test bench with 50 watts, but as you can see in the video it wangs.....enjoy

i have two. i got them for $20 a while back. they sound great to me, but they need a little crossover work on the low end and maybe some EQ, they tend to be kinda harsh sometimes.

i used them off 15w in my house for a while //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

good stuffs.

and yes that is a fiberglass box i made for them lawl.

and they arent woofers. they are fullrange Neodymium Magnet transducers.

Req's "Hairball" enclosure returns //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

I remember the headphones Brandontw (IIRC?) made for 'em...pure madness.

how do they sound tho. i mean i would like to hear them croseed 500-3k and see how they would work for midrange

we xovered them about 120-180 and they sounded great, a little tinny sounding when it wasnt inside of some enclosure, but once we put it in the plastic container the bass notes really brightened up. If you had like 2 per door it would rock....would be really great if your ride is lacking in places for big midranges.

I can see why alot of contractors have been buying the wall mount versions for home theater setups.
