so i got a call from a fried of mine saying he knew the owner of a shop and that he was looking for some employees, its fairly new, just has 3 guys there now... so i went up there talked to the owner and i got a chance to audition for the job of box building and amp instalation/subwiring, gotta go up there at 9 AM and build a box for a customer. he didnt know the specifics but said they were coming back the next day and i could check everything out, if all goes well then i got the job. however hed also want me to learn how to installl head units and ive never done this before outside of my own vehicle. as well as installing tweeters, coaxles et cetera et cetera... im not too comfortable with all of that in that i dont have any experience with it and was hoping to pick up on it at the shop.

so what im asking is any tips/advice you all might have. this is somethign ive been looking to do for a long time and now that a chance has come up i dont wanna mess it up. Aside from that i gotta get out from under these golden archers(2 year mcdonald employee)

cliffs: auditioning for shop position building box, dont know details ahead of time, going in the AM wanted any tips

Build a good box, don't just go by manufacturer BS specs

Make the boxes YOURS and design based on vehicle and sub. If they only want you to build a certain box and the design is BS, built it first then build them a good box. Don't talk down about the design at first, just see it they are fine w/ you building another one. Show em what design can really do.

If the shop is dirty, clean it up. Go out of your way to help.

good advice, i want to do like 45s but not sure how to cut then without a table saw bringing my own tools... the shop just opened and all theyve been doing its tinting for the most part, didnt have anyone to build boxes yet, and so havnt pruchased all the tools

If they don't have the tools, drop in, get the design, then go home and build w/ a table saw. May be a pain in the ***, but will show you are willing to go out of your way to work.

Your not comfortable yet hardly any experience and you applied in person anyway? Sounds like that you shouldntv'e applied at all.
this may very well be the case, but i pick up on things quickly and merely need to get some first hand experience, grown up poor, around people with no knowledge or care for audio so had to pick up what i know by myself : /

thought if nothing else this would be a good learning experience, i would not do anything im uncomfortable with.

Also, you will have to learn to build pretty quick. Shops are all about production. If you can't pop out a nice single 12" box quick, some shops will just resort to prebuilts.
hmm hopefully i wont have much trouble there, although i try to be careful with measurements et cetera thats something ill have to work on for sure.

When you show up tell the guy you have audiorived for your Audtiotion!

Don't worry.. Just think that you want the job.. don't worry about how long shit takes.. just do it right, do it as fast as you can and just get it done.. Don't stress... remember you will assume they expect more out of you then they really do..

So don't stress too hard..
