Hey guys, the problem I am having is a little hard to describe. My setup is a Sony Deck going to an Amp then to 4 6x8 Kicker KS680 speakers. Whenever I want to crank on a song (don't matter which) at a loud enough vol. it almost sounds like part of the bass in the song is dead in sound although i hear the other part of the song. I'm not really sure how to describe it. If you have any ideas on what my issue could be it would be greatly appreciated. Let me add that this didn't start until I was playing a song that had a great and loud guitar solo in it. The music sounds fine at lower volumes.

it would run really well for like a minute or less, and then it sounded like the volume just took a dive. everything sounded kinda flat like you were listening to it through a wall or something.

what amp and how's it wired.

Tidalwave TXB4200, 400W amp, wired with RCA cables just 2 channel with the 4 speakers bridged. due to a set of bad rca cables when installed. I was going to wire as a 4 channel setup

rated 50rms@4ohms x 4, and my 4 speakers (Kicker KS680) are rated at

Peak: 360 watts per pair / 180 watts each

RMS: 120 watts per pair / 60 watts each.

is the amp stable at 2 ohms bridged?

your amp is seeing low impedance, ill put a dollar on it.

Maybe, I may just need to get me a new amp considering that my amp is about 13 years old, lol. The amp ran retail from 1997-1998. didn't realize it was that old.

I'm not sure how to troubleshoot an amp to see if stable or getting low impedance.

you need to find the specs on the amp. if it's a 4 channel and not a "high end" amp and your running it bridged with a 2 ohm load i'm certian that's the problem.

ok, i'll add in another set of RCA cables tonight and let you guys know if it fixes my problem, it's logical that it would.

well i tested the current RCA cables and thats not the problem. I wired it up in a 4 channel setup and getting the same problem but only on the rear speakers, which is the same channels i was running off of while bridged. Its either the Amp or the head unit, ill switch the RCA cable tomm. and see if it switches or not.

It turns out the problem I am having is clipping. Im not sure if its the pre amp in the Head Unit or the Amp in my trunk. Anything I can do to tell which? I only ran the Amp(Trunk) at about 35-45% gain at most. on 2 channels bridged to 4 speakers. I redone the wiring and is now 4 channels and is still clipping.

it's a gain issue what is the gain on

about 45-50%, if I go any lower on the gain I end up maxing out the volume range on the head unit

Hey guys I really need some help. I need to determine if its the fault of the head unit or the amp? What can i do to find out. I have no other amps or head units to test with.
