Audio Interupt In Lead?

So my Alpine HU has this in its wireharness but my best buy one does not (for my car). What does this do and is it important?

I've never used it before, but I have a feeling that I might need to soon as most newer cars have Navi.

from my understanding, this wire triggers the HU to switch to Aux IN, which is where the navi signal is hooked up to, correct?

Usually it's a mute trigger for when the phone rings or the nav system has something to say.
